Meet Siim Land, a best-selling author, biohacker, public speaker and creator of the 'Body Mind Empowerment' podcast.
Last month Siim took over our Instagram and gave our listeners an incredibly insightful IG live where he talked about the microbiome, the importance of good nutrition and gave us his expertise on intermittent fasting. Head over to our Instagram to watch this episode!
Since then we have caught up with him 1-to-1 to dive a little deeper into his mind and what he has been up to recently.
How did you first get into the world of biohacking and health optimization?
"I started lifting weights in high school and wanted to optimise my nutrition for muscle growth and body composition. I then stumbled upon intermittent fasting and the ketogenic diet. This was the rabbit hole that I went down into."
Tell us why you love intermittent fasting.
"It's been very liberating for me in terms of giving me free time, making it easy to stick to a diet, and productivity. The health benefits are secondary for me, I would do it even if there weren't any health benefits. I just love having more free time!"
Would intermittent fasting be your number one top health hack or does something else come first place?
"I would place intermittent fasting and the sauna on the top of the list with the fastest and most profound results."
You've just written a book on stress, tell us about what led you to write this?
"I wanted to make people more resilient against stressful events like pandemics, seasonality, crises, chaos and also everyday stress."
What does an average day look like to you?
"I wake up around sunrise, take a walk and start working on my computer for a few hours. At noon I take a coffee break, check emails and prepare for either podcasting or video creation. In the afternoon I workout and have dinner."
What's one thing you could enlighten our readers about regarding health optimisation that they probably wouldn't know?
"Your mindset and psychology can have a huge impact on your physical health and wellbeing. It's very difficult to become well if your own mind is sabotaging you or creating illusory obstacles."
How does good nutrition play a role in our gut health and mental health?
"It has a direct effect on your brain function and inflammation levels. If your body has to spend energy on repairing the damage from bad food, you'll have fewer resources to do other things like being happy or focusing on something."
You tried our Chai, Turmeric and Maca Clean Lean Protein, what did you think?
"I love the taste and consistency. It's not a regular shake but more like a frothy latte. All the Nuzest proteins are amazing and the ingredients are top notch without any artificial sweeteners!"
How does protein can help with weight loss and muscle growth?
"Muscle mass burns a lot of calories and keeps your metabolic rate high. With resistance training and having more muscle you'll burn more calories at rest without having to exercise. It's also the biggest determinant of your insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance.
Essentially, you can eat more food without gaining weight and you'll lose weight with fewer restrictions. Protein is the most important macronutrient for building muscle and stimulating muscle protein synthesis. Studies show high protein diets lead to more weight loss, higher satiety and muscle growth."
What's next for you Siim?
"I'm currently continuing to create content, podcasts, speaking and I have some interesting projects with documentaries and film in the mix."
